This is the sea shanty that I wrote for Jonathan Nevair’s ‘The Curse of Dragon Tail island’ which is available at:

Amazon UK / Amazon US / Bookshop.org / Kobo

(Verse 1)

The tide was high, and the morn was pale,

When we stepped once more ‘neath the sail.

The rum was stored, the anchor weighed,

The view of land began to fade.

With a cheer for the life we’d missed,

We set our course where the sunrise kissed.

(Chorus)

So, heave away (heave away), let the whole world hear,

We’re bound for lands both far and near,

With Lady Luck we have nothing to fear,

So, heave away (heave away) lads, let the tides decide.

(Verse 2)

The tide was high, and the wind was new,

The ship found the breeze, her captain his crew.

The colours were raised, the sails were full,

The waves gave way ‘neath eager hull.

With a laugh and a toast, our course was set,

Bound for the point, where sea and sky met.

(Chorus)

So, heave away (heave away), let the whole world hear,

We’re bound for lands both far and near,

With Lady Luck we have nothing to fear.

So, heave away (heave away) lads, let the tides decide.

(Verse 3)

The tide was high, and the harbour behind,

Benevolence Bay where the land is kind.

Where the taverns are full, and the rum flows free,

But away we must go, away to the sea.

Away on the wind, to the far horizon,

Away, away until our adventure is done.

(Chorus)

So, heave away (heave away), let the whole world hear,

We’re bound for lands both far and near,

With Lady Luck we have nothing to fear,

So, heave away (heave away) lads, let the tides decide.

(Verse 4)

The tide was high, and our Lady Luck smiled,

The ship, the crew, her captain beguiled.

No bones were tossed, no dice were rolled,

An adventure, a story, left to be told.

Beyond the horizon, away beyond the ocean swell,

Where legends, and secrets, and treasure dwell.

(Final Chorus)

So, heave away (heave away), let the whole world hear,

We’re bound for lands both far and near,

With Lady Luck we have nothing to fear,

So, heave away (heave away) lads, let the tides decide.

So, heave away lads! Heave away!

Heavy away lads! Heave away!
